I lose track of time when I am working in my studio. You see, creating artwork challenges me, and then brings me great peace and satisfaction. Creating has given my life depth.
Imagine combining textiles to create a work of art. Glue, paper, photographs, fabric, glass, metal, wire, cardboard, bottle caps, recycled items, vintage papers and sheet music, etc…all layered and secured with your favorite paint. The options are limitless. I find vivid color, papers and textiles appealing. I adore texture. Mixed media work challenges me to combine various materials harmoniously. My style is absolutely unique.
There is a story behind each piece I create. Nothing is placed on the canvas without intent. I like words. Words can be powerful, especially standing on their own. I like surprises. Watching someone discover a subtle object or ideal hidden in my work is exciting. I want to make people think and ask questions.
I have been inspired by real world experiences and by history. Whether I create a painting of the Virgin Mary, the Statue of Liberty, my daughter, Giverny, Cinque Terre, or the American Southwest, all have affected me and all deserve their own interpretation. Some pieces are inspired by my country. Other paintings are created simply from curiosity, about a subject’s history and meaning. If I find something to be interesting, it needs to be shared.
Everything and everyone has a story. This is mine.
